Dosages and Soaking Times.

For Dacron, Nylon, Acrylics, and any material other than laminates, begin by using 2 ounces per gallon (1/4th of a cup). With experience, many of our users have reduced this substantially, especially when higher water temperatures and long soaking times are used. Allow to soak at least 1 to 4 hours for most situations.

For mildewed laminates, begin by using 4 ounces (1/2 cup) per gallon. Required soaking times for laminates are substantially more than for other materials, and water temperature plays a significant role in how long sails need to soak to reach the desired cleaning effect. At room temperature, we recommend allowing at least overnight soaking.

 

We have prepared 2 tables to help our customers determine the dosage to use. The keys to using CS-530 (Patent Pending) successfully and economically are:

  1. Use at least the recommended amount of CS-530 for the amount of water being used.
  2. Use as little water as possible.
  3. Make sure the solution covers the sails.

If in doubt, we recommend mixing a small amount of solution and soaking a few square feet overnight in a pail.

Soak for as long as convenient or until the sail is clean. (Generally overnight, but depending on the condition of the sails, could be as little as an hour or two for Dacron, etc.)

Rule of Thumb

In regard to the caution not to use too much water to avoid unnecessary dilution, we have found that:

3 sails from a 35-footer can usually be done in 100 gallons or less.

5 sails from a 35-footer can usually be done in 150 gallons or less.

Metric Conversion

For those users who are more accustomed to metric dimensions, the following
can be used with the previous tables:

5-6 cups of CS-530 is roughly equivalent to 1 Kg.
2.5 pounds is about 1.15 Kg. (1 Kg is equal to 2.2 pounds.)
2 oz per gal is equivalent to 15 grams per liter or 1.5 Kg per 100 liters.
4 oz per gal is equivalent to 30 grams per liter or 3.0 Kg per 100 liters.
